Need a quick and easy sugar cookie recipe?
Let’s look at the ingredients you’re going to need:
2 cups of regular all purpose flour
1 cup of sugar
1 egg (I use large eggs)
1 stick of butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Because ovens are variable adjust as needed. I set my oven for 375 F, but if your oven runs hot, turn it down to 350 F. On the other hand if it takes awhile for your oven, you can pop it up to 400 F, but I’d be very careful and watch it. Try to stay between the 35-375 F mark if possible.
1. You’re going to combine your dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
2. In a separate bowl combine your egg and vanilla. Next you’re going to take your butter and gently fold it into the egg mixture.
3. To make a dough, combine your wet and dry ingredients. Once you create your dough you’re going to let it sit in the fridge for an hour.
4. Flour your working surface and roll out your dough.Press my dough to about 1/4 inch. If you like them thinner you can roll them to 1/8 inch. I like my cookies crisp and thin!
5. Sprinkle flour over your dough before using your cookie cutters. If you don’t have cookie cutters, you can use a knife to cut them into shapes.
6. Bake your cookies 9-11 minutes, watching them so that they don’t burn.
If you’re having company over for Easter, this is a fun festive snack to put out on the table that offers bright, colorful spring colors. It doesn’t hurt that they taste great too!
